How to Bet on the NCAA
The great thing about NCAA betting is that there are games of one form or another every week, meaning you can bet on NCAA games year-round. Here are some of the bets you will be able to place on NCAA games.
Moneyline – This is a simple bet on who will win a game. The NCAA odds provided explains what you can win. If your teams have + odds, they are the underdog, and you can win that amount for a $100 bet. If your team has – odds, they are the favorite, and the odds tell you how much you must bet to win $100. If Pitt is +180 against Oklahoma in football and wins the game, you win $180 on top of your $100 bet.
Points Spread – In NCAA betting, this bet is on the margin of victory or loss for a team. If your team has + NCAA odds, they must lose by less than the spread. If your team has – NCAA odds, they must win by more than the spread. If Villanova is -15 over Liberty, then they must win by 16.
Total Points – This is an over/under bet on the total points scored by both teams. If the total score is set at 145 for a game, then your bet will be whether the game goes over or under.
Prop Betting – There may be a limited number of prop bets available for NCAA betting, especially surrounding March Madness.
Futures – Futures in NCAA betting will likely surround which teams will win a national championship in their sport. There may be other bets, such as teams making the NCAA tournament, or gaining a Regional #1 seed.
Betting on In-State Teams is Allowed
One significant difference between online sports betting in Pennsylvania over New Jersey is that you will be able to be on local NCAA schools. In New Jersey, betting on in-state colleges is prohibited, likely as a measure to control points shaving. This stipulation is not in place in Pennsylvania.
That means you will be able to bet on Penn State, Temple, Pitt, Drexel, Villanova, and most any school that has NCAA teams, especially in football and basketball. While other NCAA sports may be available, expect most action for NCAA betting to occur during football season and especially during March Madness in basketball.
