How to Bet on the NFL

If you plan to bet the NFL, you’ll have plenty of options to do so. Here’s a quick breakdown of the forms of NFL betting to expect in Pennsylvania:

Futures – This is where you will bet on a long-term event, such as the winner of the Super Bowl or whether a team will make the playoffs.

Points – When betting the points in NFL games, you’re betting whether the total points scored by both teams will go over or under the NFL odds given for the game. If the Eagles are playing the Redskins and the line for is 42.5, then you select whether the points will go over or under.

Points Spread – Betting the points spread of games is popular. The team favored (listed as – odd points spread) must win the game by the spread offered by the sportsbook. The underdog (listed as + odds points spread) can either win or lose by the spread provided. If you bet the Steelers at +6.5 against the Patriots, and the Steelers lose by 5, you’re a winner.

Moneyline – One of the simplest options for NFL betting. You’re betting whether a team will win the game. The NFL odds listed tell you how much you can win. If a team has + odds, they are the underdog, and the odds are how much you can win for a $100 bet. If a team has – odds, then that’s how much you have to wager to win $100. If Pittsburgh is +210 against the Patriots at -210, then Steelers fans will win $210 for every $100 wagered, while Patriots fans will have to bet $210 to win $100.

Prop Betting – These are specialty bets based on a wide variety of things, such as how many penalties the Eagles will commit or whether the Steelers will sweep the Browns during the regular season.

Parlays – This is a popular NFL betting option where you bet on multiple teams to acquire better odds. To win the parlay, all the teams you wager on must come through. If you bet the spread on the Eagle, Steelers, and Giants, all three must meet the spread for you to win. However, if you win, the profits can be substantial.

NFL Teams in Pennsylvania

Philadelphia boasts two NFL teams, the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Philadelphia Eagles. Both will enjoy heavy action at Pennsylvania sportsbooks. The Steelers are six-time Super Bowl Champions, last winning back in 2008. They are regular playoff contenders and have one of the game’s all-time great quarterbacks in Ben Roethlisberger.

The Eagles just won their first Super Bowl title in 2017 and just barely made the playoffs in 2018. They recently lost their Super Bowl MVP quarterback Nick Foles and will rely on Carson Wentz to try and get them back into contention in 2019 and beyond.

Action will be heavy for both teams, and you can place bets on all regular season and playoff games.
